ASC Nurse Manager
Job Type: Full-Time (Salaried)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced ASC Nurse Manager to lead our ambulatory surgery center operations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive nursing expertise, including critical care and surgical experience, along with strong leadership skills. In this role, you will oversee clinical staff, ensure compliance with healthcare standards, and promote excellence in patient care within our surgical facility.
Duties
Daily Clinical Operations
- Monitor daily staffing and adjust coverage in response to call-outs
- Ensure safe, efficient patient flow from admission through discharge
- Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff as needed
- Deliver direct patient care when necessary to support operations
- Oversee operating room turnover efficiency
- Address and resolve immediate surgeon concerns
- Review next-day OR schedules to ensure readiness, including equipment, imaging, and supply needs
Nursing Staff Management
- Supervise approximately 30 perioperative staff (Pre-Op, Circulating Nurses, PACU Nurses, CNAs)
- Conduct performance evaluations, competency assessments, and annual reviews
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and progressive discipline when appropriate
- Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and patient-centered culture
Staff Education & Development
- Validate orientation competencies and track licensure/certifications
- Plan and lead monthly staff meetings and quarterly emergency drills
- Coordinate and lead annual skills fair
- Ensure compliance with all mandatory training requirements
Staffing & Payroll
- Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage
- Monitor call-outs, overtime, and PTO requests
- Review and approve biweekly timecards, ensuring accuracy in hours, PTO, and missed punches
Patient Safety & Risk Management
- Investigate nursing-related incident reports and ensure proper documentation
- Implement corrective action plans to support continuous improvement
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability
- Review patient satisfaction surveys and address concerns promptly
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maine
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in OR, PACU, or related perioperative setting
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience
Skills & Abilities
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Proven ability to collaborate with physicians, staff, and patients
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone/computer systems
- Ability to lift, push, or move equipment up to 25–30 pounds occasionally
- Prolonged standing and walking (up to 6–8 hours per shift)
- Adequate visual and auditory acuity for patient care and supervision
- Ability to maintain focus during high-volume, fast-paced operations
